Chinese human rights lawyer Lu Siwei, who has represented 12 Hong Kong people, received a notice from authorities today indicating that they intend to revoke his license to practice law.
The Central News Agency reported today that the notice, issued by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Justice to Lu Siwei, was stamped on Jan. 4 and that he was informed of his right to a hearing in cases of administrative punishment. The letter states that Lu Siwei has repeatedly made so-called inappropriate comments on the Internet and has published a large number of articles that “seriously damage the image of the lawyer profession” and that he intends to have his lawyer’s license revoked.
The authorities said Lu Siwei’s behavior violated the “Lawyer Law” and “Lawyer Practice Management Measures”. Lu Siwei has the right to be heard, and may apply for a hearing within three days of receiving this notice.
Lu Siwei told Apple Daily via text message that he believed the case was related to his involvement in the 12 Hong Kong people case.
Lu Siwei, 47, is a well-known human rights lawyer in China. After he assisted in the case of the arrested Hong Kong people last year, the Sichuan Jinchi Law Firm, where he works, received a notice from the Judicial Bureau of Qingyang District, Chengdu, on Nov. 3 last year, requesting the firm to send to the bureau the file dossier and the commissioning agreement of all cases Lu Siwei has represented since February 2019.
On April 24, 2020, the Chengdu Bar Association issued a disciplinary sanction against Lu Siwei for using a “blank power of attorney” in Chen Jiahong’s case. “blank power of attorney”.

In August last year, 12 Hong Kong youths who were involved in the anti-Sino movement took a boat from Hong Kong to Taiwan and were intercepted by Shenzhen Marine Police Bureau officers on their way. Before Lu Si-bit, six co-counsel had been forced to withdraw from the case.
