Muyenberg, the doctor who discovered Ebola in 1976, warned that a new “deadly virus” was on the horizon, and health care workers were very concerned that a new “X disease” might actually emerge. According to the report, this new virus may spread as fast as the new coronavirus, but has a lethality rate of 50% to 90% of the Ebola virus. However, the World Health Organization reassured the public that “disease X” is currently only a hypothesis of scientists.
CNN and the Daily Mail reported, Muyembe (Jean-JacquesMuyembe) said that a potentially deadly new virus has emerged in the rainforests of Africa, and the future pandemic brought about by this virus is likely to be more serious and more catastrophic than the new coronavirus now ravaging the world.
It was reported that Ingende in the Democratic Republic of Congo had shown early symptoms of viral hemorrhagic fever. However, in the doctor for his Ebola virus test, his test results were negative, so doctors worry that the patient is likely to be “X disease” (DiseaseX) patient zero.
According to the report, this new virus may spread as fast as the new coronavirus, but has a lethality rate of 50% to 90% of the Ebola virus. However, WHO reassured the public that despite scientists’ fears that an outbreak of “Disease X” could lead to worldwide destruction, “Disease X” is only a hypothesis of scientists so far.
Muyenberg said the recent emergence of new viruses in the world is mainly the result of the destruction of animal habitats and human trafficking in wildlife. He believes that as natural habitats disappear, animals such as rats, bats and insects are beginning to appear in places where large animals have become extinct. And the recent succession of SARS, MERS and new coronaviruses are all suspected to be coronaviruses transmitted from these organisms to humans.
Recent findings released by Mark Woolhouse, professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh, show that scientists can find three to four new virus species each year, and most of these diseases come from animals, but scientists believe that zoonotic diseases such as Ebola and new coronaviruses only occur when wild animals are slaughtered.
