Newshour” is down on Taiwan’s epidemic prevention strategy Lin Jing Yi: too ignorant of Taiwan’s situation!

The U.S. media “New York Times” on the 2nd of this month published an article that Taiwan has a superb performance in preventing the Wuhan pneumonia (new coronavirus disease, COVID-19) epidemic, describing the daily routine in Taiwan as “normally bizarre”, but said that “Taiwan’s current epidemic prevention strategy is not conducive to a lasting war “, “lockdown is not a long-term solution”. In response, Dr. Lin Jing Yi, a former member of the Democratic Progressive Party, said bluntly, “You really don’t understand Taiwan’s situation too well.”

She first pointed out that when the epidemic first broke out last year, the Tsai government announced that it would control masks to ensure domestic demand, but some people still lambasted the government for not having a conscience and not donating to China, which is clearly a major exporting country for masks; and Taiwan is being suppressed by China in every way internationally, even to arrange for Taiwanese people in China to return to their home countries are subject to difficulties from the Chinese side, and a bunch of pro-China people at home are also criticizing and abusing the situation, saying that Taiwan is such a place.

Lin Jing Yi further explained Taiwan’s situation, saying that Taiwan “is a country that is afraid of being troubled by China even if it wants to order vaccines”, “is a country where the WHO will not help with an epidemic outbreak, and China will jump out and say ‘don’t interfere in its internal affairs’ to countries that want to help”, “is a country where the epidemic is clearly well guarded, but there are still people who want to sing the praises of the epidemic all day long and add bad words”, “is a country where the SARS epidemic occurred in 2003 and begged the WHO for help and was choked by China ‘who cares about you'”.

In response to New Times’ comment that Taiwan’s epidemic prevention strategy does not know how long it can last, Lin Jing Yi said, “Don’t worry about how long we ‘can last’, we are a country willing to unite to guard the country’s economy and people’s health. I feel heartbroken after writing this. But we will stand up straight.”
