Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter reported Monday (4) that Börje Ekholm, chief executive of Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson, is under pressure from China to lobby the Swedish government to lift the ban on Chinese telecommunications equipment makers huawei and ZTE’s participation in Sweden’s 5G network construction, or risk pulling Ericsson out of the country.
Today reported earlier that Bao had proposed to Swedish Foreign Trade Minister Anna Hallberg to review the Swedish Post and Telecommunications Agency’s requirement that local telecommunications providers remove Chinese components from their 5G telecommunications infrastructure by January 2025.
In an earlier report, Today quoted a text sent to the authorities by Bao Yikang, saying that he believes Ericsson should leave Sweden if the ban continues. In her response to Today, Holberg said she would not interfere with the ban, adding that she had not been in contact with Bao about the incident.
