The Attorney General who was promoted by Soros to reduce felony sentences is being sued by thousands of his prosecutors

The Association of Deputy District Attorneys in Los Angeles County filed a lawsuit Wednesday (Dec. 30) against the district attorney general over a recent order by new Los Angeles County District Attorney General George Gascón to reduce sentencing increases for certain crimes, Breitbart News reported Dec. 31.

Gascón, one of several left-wing prosecutors backed by George Soros, took office in early December of last year and immediately announced radical reforms, including an end to cash bail, a ban on the death penalty and a ban on sentencing increases for certain serious crimes, such as those involving the use of firearms or gangs.

These new rules affect ongoing cases, such as that of a suspect in a double murder case, including that of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy Gilbert Solano. After intense public criticism and outcry from officers’ families, Gascoyne reinstated sentencing increases that applied only to limited circumstances, such as hate crimes, child abuse or sex trafficking.

The lawsuit filed by the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, which represents nearly 1,000 grassroots Los Angeles County prosecutors, seeks to enjoin the special orders issued by Gascoyne because they violate California law.

In a statement, the Deputy District Attorneys Association explained that the special orders issued by George Gascoyne since he took office are not only very aggressive, they are plainly illegal. For future cases, the special order prohibits deputy district attorneys from imposing mandatory sentencing enhancements on criminal convictions under California’s three-strikes law. In pending cases, the special order requires deputy district attorneys to withdraw all pre-existing sentencing enhancements. These provisions are clearly illegal, and deputy prosecutors cannot be ordered not to implement sentencing increases under California law.

The Three Strikes and You’re Out Act is a U.S. law at both the federal and state levels that requires state courts to adopt mandatory sentencing guidelines for repeat offenders who commit a third felony, with substantially longer prison terms: all bills currently have a lower limit of 25 years in prison, with a maximum of life, and the latter without parole for a significant period of time. Such bills were so prevalent in the 1990s that by 2012, 27 states across the United States had enacted such bills.

Eric Siddall, vice president of the Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorneys Association, said, “The deputy district attorneys in Los Angeles County are overwhelmed by this directive to do nothing. Should we comply with our legal and ethical responsibilities and risk disciplinary action or even dismissal by our new bosses? Or do we follow the instructions of our new boss and risk losing our California state bar license and risk losing our license to practice law in California as a result? We ask the court to answer these questions.”

Late Thursday, the Los Angeles Superior Court ordered Gascón to answer the lawsuit, and the Deputy Attorneys Association withdrew its request for a temporary injunction in order to expedite the case.

Gascón was one of several left-wing prosecutors Soros endorsed in the recent election. He served as district attorney general in San Francisco, where his tenure was marked by an increase in petty crime that left the city notorious for its deteriorating conditions.

U.S. scholar John Murray tweeted, “Grassroots prosecutors in L.A. have taken the unusual step of charging their boss, the new district attorney general, who has been in office for a month. This attorney general took office with the strong support and patronage of Soros. He is pushing an almost absurd policy of reducing sentences for felonies, making it impossible for grassroots prosecutors to do their jobs. Why is Soros always behind all kinds of social crimes? Black Lives Mighty (BLM) smash-and-grab, felony sentence reductions. Soros is the mob boss!”

Gascón was elected Los Angeles County prosecutor in November, defeating Jackie Lacey, the first-ever black district attorney in Los Angeles. (He was endorsed in the race by state and local Democrats, including Mayor Eric Grcetti, who has supported Lacey’s attorney in the past.)
