The Korean media “Chosun Ilbo” compared the economic development of Taiwan and South Korea on December 31, 2020, and analyzed that the reason for Taiwan’s economic success is that it “does not look at China (Communist Party)”, and the attitude of the two governments toward the Communist Party of China has become an important watershed for Taiwan and South Korea’s economic and national fortunes.
Taiwan’s economic growth rate was revised upward from 1.56% to 2.54% last year, the first time in 29 years that Taiwan’s economic growth surpassed China’s. Looking ahead to 2021, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that Taiwan’s economic growth will reach 3.2%, beating South Korea’s 2.8%, and South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s five-year term, there may be four years in which the economic performance does not match Taiwan’s.
The article said that Taiwan and South Korea used to be the same four small dragons in Asia, South Korea’s GDP per capita than Taiwan, but now will be reversed by Taiwan, the key lies in the contrast between the two countries’ approach to the Chinese Communist Party.
Take the handling of the epidemic as an example, Taiwan was the first country in the world to interrupt the entry of Chinese tourists, but South Korea is concerned about the impact of economic cooperation with China and is reluctant to fully reduce ties with China. In terms of consequences, the number of diagnosed and sick people in South Korea last year was 75 and 126 times higher than in Taiwan.
Secondly, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen actively encouraged Taiwanese businessmen from mainland China to return to Taiwan, and sided with the United States in the U.S.-China trade war.
Compared to Taiwan’s economic boom due to the “break away from China”, Moon Jae-in claims to support the Chinese Communist Party and respects it as a “superior country” everywhere in South Korea, which has not yet been completely lifted by the Chinese Communist Party in retaliation for the “SAD” missile system (THAAD).
According to the newspaper, this is the hottest moment of the global anti-communist wave, as Japan, Australia, Canada, or the EU, India and Southeast Asia, which were friends in the past, are gradually waking up from their illusions about the CCP.
The Chosun Ilbo concluded that if Moon Jae-in continues to look at the Communist Party in 2021, I am afraid that not only the economy will deteriorate, but also the country’s fortunes will be in decline.
