President Donald Trump said the number of new crown infections and deaths in the U.S. is overstated because of the CDC’s absurd methodology for counting them.
Trump tweeted, “The numbers of infections and deaths from the Chinese virus in the U.S. are overstated due to the CDC’s absurd determination method, ‘If in doubt, call it a new crown.’ Fake news!”
Trump also said that many other countries’ new-crown statistics were deliberately communicated as being very inaccurate and low.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had reported that more than 400,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide on Dec. 18, but explained that the number was not only confirmed cases but also included suspected cases in Texas. According to data released by Johns Hopkins University, more than 249,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the United States on a single day on Dec. 18.
Johns Hopkins University reported that since the outbreak, more than 20.4 million cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed and more than 350,000 deaths have occurred in the United States, according to a combination of data from U.S. federal and local governments, as well as public sources such as the media.
