Personnel layout of the 20th CPC Congress draws attention

Although the 20th Communist Party Congress is still nearly two years away, personnel changes at the top of the Communist Party have already attracted outside attention.

According to the pro-China overseas media Dovetail, the CPC personnel layout related to the 20th Congress is accelerating. According to Dovetail, 26 key party and government officials have been replaced in local Chinese provinces in 2020, more than twice as many as in the past two years. Among them, government chiefs in Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing, which are dominated by members of the CCP’s Politburo, have a chance to move up the ladder at the 20th CPC Congress.

Meanwhile, officials in several southeastern provinces are still playing a heavy role in the new round of personnel changes. Feng Fei, who originally served in Zhejiang, was transferred to Hainan in December as deputy secretary of the provincial party committee, and was later appointed acting governor of Hainan. Reports suggest that officials from Fujian, Zhejiang and Shanghai will remain important in the CCP’s political landscape, exporting a new generation of important officials from time to time.
