On New Year’s Day (1 January), FROD-EDF held a vehicle patrol to demand the release of all political prisoners.
In Hong Kong, the FROD held a car tour on New Year’s Day (1 January), during which a “Lennon cloth” signed by members of the public was displayed, demanding the release of all political prisoners. At one point, the Police accused them of breaching the restriction order, but the FROD referred to the vehicle as a private place and did not violate the restriction order. (Reporting by Kevin Hu)
The FRODEBO’s New Year’s Day vehicle patrol operation, which started from the Lichi Point Detention Unit and passed through a number of demonstration sites, including Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui Pier, Red Tunnel, Causeway Bay, and ended with the Legislative Council, was concluded by the DDF Convenor, Mr Chan Yu-er, who hoped to conclude with a “pot bottom”, implying that Hong Kong people would “peacefully and safely meet at the bottom” in the new year.
During the tour, the FRODEBU displayed a giant “Lennon cloth” with the signature of the public and gas written on it, calling on the public not to forget a group of political prisoners who had been convicted of fighting total rights or indeadment, and demanding the release of all political prisoners, including Li Zhiying, a media group that was being returned to 柙, Zhou Ting, a former Hong Kong member of the public who had been jailed for participating in the procession and rally, and Huang Feng.
There were only four people on board the van , including FRODEBOL convenor Chen Qi , FRODEBOL deputy convenor Ye Jinlong , branch chairman Li Zhuo and a driver , but the police sent nearly 30 plainclothes police officers to the scene about an hour before their departure to monitor the situation . At one point during the event , they were warned of the opportunity to breach the restriction order and had an spat with Mr Ip , with the FRODE FACTS saying that the vehicle was not in public and did not violate the restriction order , adding that they could no longer hold a New Year’s Day parade .
When the van was approaching the Legislative Council , a large number of police officers were on guard , with one female policewoman pointing out that they had more than two people outside the vehicle , suspected of violating the restriction order , and that the vehicle was not only for transport purposes but for political purposes . The FROD still points out that it will continue to apply for processions and rallies in the future in the hope that the public will continue to voice their voices in different ways for democratic freedom.
There have also been spontaneous responses in various districts in Hong Kong, with the TU and the Labour Party hanging “Free political prisoners” and chanting “Free political prisoners” at the public pier in Sai Kung, while in Kwai Chung, seven District Councillors, Yu Kwai, were arrested. The display of “Lennonbu” printed with the words “Free political prisoners” outside Chung Square attracted a small number of passers-by onlookers, and in Sha Tin, the Social Democratic Company displayed a banner with the words “Free political prisoners” on a large television in the New City Square.
