Sources are reporting that a U.N. diplomat was found dead in her Manhattan apartment after committing suicide on Dec. 31.
Police sources told The Post that a 38-year-old female diplomat living in an apartment at 333 East 45th Street was found dead face down with a belt around her neck, and that investigating officers found no signs of foul play. No further information or reports of the death were available at press time.
The apartment is located near the UN headquarters building. Police found prescription anti-depressant medications and two bottles of melatonin in the apartment.
Hernan Avila, the apartment’s handyman, told The Post on 1 January that “the ambulance came yesterday, the doctors went upstairs,” “(probably) the ambassador or someone like that came,” and that “the doorman called the room, but no one answered, there was no response, so something should have happened.”
Avila added that the diplomat had lived by herself in a fourth-floor apartment for two years. He described the woman as a quiet person and very nice, who occasionally smoked outside, and everyone who knew her felt sad.
