Times Square dance to celebrate the New Year

The New Year’s Eve countdown in New York City’s Times Square was closed to spectators under the influence of the New Crown Pneumonia (CCP) epidemic, but New York City Mayor Michael White celebrated the New Year with his wife dancing in Times Square on Friday (Jan. 1), and the former was criticized for misconduct and dereliction of duty.

The New York City government asked people to stay indoors during the New Year period to maintain social distance, so they could not celebrate the New Year as usual. However, White’s mayor’s office shared a clip on Twitter showing White and his wife Chirlane McCray dancing together on a stage in front of a nearly empty Times Square.

The incident drew the displeasure of all walks of life, with TV host Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Senator McCain, accusing White of throwing a private party in Times Square and denouncing him as the worst politician in modern history. Another TV host, Andy Cohen, criticized him on his New Year’s Eve show for failing to do his job, saying, “I don’t need to see this as soon as we enter 2021.”
