President Donald Trump recently signed a $2.3 trillion spending package passed by the federal Congress, and sources within the government have revealed that Trump has used institutional means to delay some of the unnecessary spending.
According to Newsmax, $900 billion of the $2.3 trillion spending program is for the Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) bailout, while another 1.4 trillion is for the U.S. government’s comprehensive spending program.
Trump believes that some of the 1.4 trillion in comprehensive spending is pure waste, such as the $1.3 billion in aid to Egypt that will mostly be used to buy Russian arms; $25 million for gender equality programs in Pakistan; and $40 million for the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., which was closed due to the epidemic.
After Trump signed off on the spending package, he said he would sequester some of the funds under the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 and explain to Congress the projects and reasons for the sequestration. If Congress does not approve it within 45 days, the intercepted items will still be allocated as usual.
Anonymous sources said that the White House Office of Management and Budget told government agencies dealing with overseas financial aid that the White House is working to freeze some of the funds in the spending package, and that the deferred projects will be revealed in a few days.
