Georgia’s election results have been in question, and on Tuesday night, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced that a mail-in ballot signature audit in Cobb County found no voter fraud.
Cobb County’s mail-in ballot signature audit was “perfect,” with only two signatures out of 15,118 randomly checked mail-in ballot envelope signatures not meeting the standard. According to Cobb County’s audit report, the county’s elections department had a 99.99 percent accuracy rate in its signature verification process.
No other election has ever had such perfect signature matching. In fact, independent supervisors were barred from participating in the audit. Robert Barnes, an attorney and political commentator, tweeted to question, “Why won’t they accept independent monitors?”
On Tuesday night, President Trump took to Twitter to shout out to Joe Gov. Brian Kemp: “When can we have signature verification in Fulton County, Joe? The process is moving too slowly. Pennsylvania just found 205,000 more votes than it had voters, so we won PA!!!”
Joe Kemp, the state’s Republican governor, went so far as to say that he had no authority to order an audit of the signatures. In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Kemp said that under the Joe State Constitution, the executive responsibility for elections belongs to the secretary of state and that he does not have the ability to require signature audits or order them.
Previously, Trump had called on Kemp to use the governor’s emergency powers to request a signature audit from the secretary of state, but Kemp explicitly refused.
Kemp further argued that the results of that Cobb County audit had spoken for themselves and that there was no evidence of election fraud. Kemp specifically added that the Jan. 5 runoff Senate election would be “transparent” and that more than 2 million Georgians had already voted.
In the U.S. election ballot in Joe, there are still 460,000 mail-in ballots that lack the legally required chain-of-custody documentation for mail-in ballots, and the majority of Biden’s ballots came from mail-in ballots.
