As of December 29, 2020, more than 1.77 million people have died in 191 countries and regions. In the early stages of the epidemic, the Chinese Communist Party did not take emergency measures and even concealed the possibility of human-to-human transmission of the epidemic, preventing “whistle blowers” from alerting the public. But after the epidemic got out of control, the Chinese Communist Party not only denied all the questions, but even claimed to be the most successful country in the world in fighting the epidemic, and instead criticized other countries for their ineffectiveness in fighting the epidemic, causing public outcry.
At a regular press conference on Dec. 29, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, in the face of questions from the outside world, claimed that China’s timeline for fighting the epidemic was open, transparent and clear. China was the first to report the epidemic to the World health Organization, the first to identify the pathogen, the first to share the genetic sequence of the virus with the world, and the timely sharing of information on the epidemic and experience in prevention and control with relevant countries and regions, and the relevant facts have stood the test of history and time.
Wang also accused China of “concealing the epidemic” without any basis, while claiming that China was the first country to control the Wuhan pneumonia epidemic, to resume work and production, and to achieve a stable economic recovery, so that its people could enjoy a safe, healthy and free life. He even said boldly that “China’s achievements in fighting the epidemic are the best answer to the so-called ‘concealment of the epidemic’ fallacy.”
However, according to the Daily Mail, Connor Reed, the first person to be diagnosed in the U.K., developed flu symptoms in Wuhan in November 2019, and when he was notified by Chinese officials that he had “Wuhan pneumonia,” he informed his friends and family about it via social media platforms, but the Chinese Communist authorities delayed declaring “Wuhan closed” until 37 days after Reed’s illness.
In addition, Li Wenliang, a doctor at Wuhan Central Hospital, issued a warning on December 30, 2019, alerting friends and relatives that “seven cases of SARS have been diagnosed in the South China Fruit and Seafood Market” and to pay attention to protection. However, after the news broke, he and eight other Chinese netizens were interviewed by the Public Security Bureau and forced to sign a letter of admonishment, and eventually Li Wenliang died of Wuhan pneumonia on February 7, 2020.
There is also much evidence that the Chinese Communist authorities knew the virus would spread before Zhong Nanshan, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, publicly admitted for the first time on January 19, 2020, on behalf of officials, that the virus was “human-to-human”.
According to a lengthy investigation by China’s Caixin.com in February titled “Genetic Sequencing of the New Coronavirus (also known as Chinese Communist Virus, COVID-19): When the Alarm Went Off,” Guangzhou Weiyuan Genetic Technology Co., Ltd. found the virus to be similar to the Sars virus as early as December 2019, but the Hubei Provincial Health Commission and the National Health Commission requested the destruction of existing virus samples on Jan. 1 and 3, respectively, and issued a ban on the unauthorized disclosure of relevant information.
The Associated Press also reported on April 15 that a memo from an internal Communist Party meeting showed that the National Health Commission held a secret meeting with provincial health commission officials on January 14 to discuss the complex situation of “human-to-human” transmission of the Wulong virus, and that “significant changes have occurred” in the outbreak. “While the virus may have spread overseas, Li Qun, director of the CDC’s Health Emergency Response Center, said in a Jan. 15 interview with CCTV, “Our latest conclusion is that the risk of human-to-human transmission (of the Wulong virus) is low.”
What is most unbelievable is that after Wuhan, Huanggang, Ezhou and other cities declared “city closures” on January 23, the Chinese Communist Party exerted diplomatic pressure to prevent other countries from evacuating Chinese nationals, issuing travel warnings and “customs closures. The Chinese Communist Party has been exerting diplomatic pressure to prevent other countries from evacuating Chinese nationals, issuing travel warnings and imposing “border closures” on China. Among other things, the U.S. was the first to upgrade its travel warnings to the most severe level 4 “Do Not Travel” to China, and Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying went so far as to denounce the U.S. as “really ungenerous. Then she slammed the U.S. for “overreacting.
CNN noted that when Xi appeared in Beijing on Feb. 10 to cheer on frontline medical personnel via video link, the official report from the Chinese Communist Party put the number of confirmed cases at 2,478, but according to 117 pages of confidential documents obtained from Hubei officials, there were at least 5,918 new cases that day, more than twice the number announced to the public. However, the Hubei provincial authorities’ report clearly states, “Internal document, please keep confidential.”
It is worth noting that these confidential internal official figures are also only part of the Chinese epidemic. Another piece of data shows the slow pace of local diagnosis of pneumonia in Wuhan, but authorities claim to have officially communicated the information in an efficient and transparent manner.
Despite U.S. pressure on Beijing to cooperate with international investigations into the origins of the outbreak, international experts have so far had limited access to medical records and primary sources in Hubei province.
In addition, another public health crisis is emerging just as the pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei Province, is unfolding. China’s already overburdened health care system has been exacerbated by a spike in influenza cases to 20 times the previous year. The influenza pandemic, which occurred last December, was not only in Wuhan, but also in the neighboring cities of Yichang and Xianning, according to official notes.
