China’s anti-epidemic software leaks personal information, thousands of stars can be bought for a dollar

A large amount of personal information about China’s epidemic prevention software “Beijing HealthCare” was recently leaked, with sellers selling the ID numbers of thousands of celebrities for one yuan.

Several Chinese media reported that the software recently had a major leak of personal information, with users’ photos, ID numbers and health status information all visible. Preliminary investigations have shown that all of this leaked information is genuine. It is reported that “Beijing Healthbaby” is a software to record and check personal health status, and people are asked to show the software to prove that they are in good health in major establishments in Beijing.

Those who have access to the leaked information have begun to sell it online, the report said. Some sellers have advertised that they can buy ID numbers of thousands of artists for one yuan, while others claim they can buy personal photos of dozens of celebrities uploaded to the software for as little as two yuan, and some can even offer customization services based on buyers’ needs.

The developers of the software were quoted as saying they were following up on the matter, but did not directly confirm that their users’ information had been leaked.
