The trial of 12 Hong Kong people suspected of being arrested by the mainland on their way to Taiwan is scheduled to begin on Dec. 28 at the Yantian Court in Shenzhen. The families of these Hong Kong people condemned the mainland authorities for forbidding their families to attend the trial. According to Radio Television Hong Kong today, the 12 Hong Kong people concern group said the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou said it would help coordinate.
The families of these 12 Hong Kong people have issued an open letter to leaders of various countries and the international community, criticizing the mainland authorities for preventing the Hong Kong people involved in the case from meeting with their families and the lawyers appointed by the families, which is against basic human rights, and urging governments to send embassy personnel to attend the court. The Twelve Hong Kong People’s Concern Group said the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou replied that it would help coordinate.
The brother of one of them, Deng Kaiyan, told Radio Television Hong Kong that he hoped the mainland authorities would live-stream the trial on the Internet so that the families and their lawyers could be informed of the proceedings, and that the mainland court would make public “the rationale and relevant documents of the verdict” rather than just the outcome of the verdict.
