U.S. actual test 5G network is actually slower than 4G! Media: iPhone simply shut down the 5G function

According to reports, the U.S. telecom operator Verizon’s 5G network may be reducing the iPhone 12’s 5G speed and phone performance, and may even affect Google or Samsung’s 5G phones. The best way to solve the problem is to turn off the 5G function.

U.S. IT magazine PCMag reports that Verizon’s 4G LTE network is typically faster than rivals T-Mobile and AT&T’s low-band 5G. However, Verizon’s ultra-broadband 5G network has very limited coverage, and its users using 5G in some cities may only display the 4G icon.

Verizon introduced Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology in October to re-use parts of the 4G band to provide signals for 5G. The phone will automatically prioritize 5G, displaying the 5G icon, which PCMag believes is just scratching the surface.

PCMag’s real-world testing in New York found that the iphone 12 Pro’s 5G network speeds using DSS technology are typically slower than 4G signals and rarely faster than 4G network speeds. This is similar to PCMag’s results from tests in Chicago in October using Google’s 5G phone, the Pixel 5.

PCMag testers used the iPhone 12 Pro to test 4G and 5G network speeds at eight separate locations in New York. The results showed that the 5G used in the first seven test sites, all of which used DSS technology, was slower than 4G. Only in the eighth test site, 5G is using ultra-broadband network, the network speed beats 4G.
