Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden nominated Bruce Reed to be deputy chief of staff for the administration.
On Tuesday (Dec. 22), Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden nominated Bruce Reed as White House deputy chief of staff, one of the most powerful positions, sparking discontent from the far left.
Although progressives (progressives) have secured some key positions in the Biden administration for allies, they are not satisfied with the direction of Biden’s high-profile appointments. The nomination of Reid has exacerbated this dissatisfaction.
The far-left group Justice Democrats wrote in a petition that “putting someone in government who prioritizes deficit reduction over other issues is a recipe for cutting the benefits we’ve earned and turning the COVID recession into a depression. recipe for a depression. Rejecting Reid would be a major test of the soul of the Biden presidency.”
According to information made public online by Democrats for Justice, the group was founded in January 2017, when Trump took office. Several leftists formed the political group in Los Angeles, California, to support “progressive” leftist Democratic candidates to challenge moderate and conservative Democratic candidates. The group also established Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) as a brand name, eventually becoming a member of the New York House of Representatives.
As a reason why Reid should not be appointed, the petition cites his role on the Obama administration’s Bowles-Simpson commission, which “proposed … massive cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
Reid’s other experiences may also be upsetting to the left. He previously ran a think tank in which one of the authors advocated partially privatizing Social Security, according to a January report in the online publication The Intercept.
On Tuesday, Biden also named Anne Filipic, formerly of the Obama campaign, as director of management and administration; Ryan Montoya, an Obama-era advance man, as director of scheduling and advance; and Gautam Raghavan, an early transition adviser, as deputy director of the Office of Presidential Personnel. Vinay Reddy, Biden’s chief speechwriter during Obama’s second term, as director of speechwriting; and Elizabeth Wilkins, adviser to the Obama-era White House Domestic Policy Council, as senior adviser to Chief of Staff Ron Klain.
