Former U.S. official: The “politicization” of intelligence is undermining U.S. democracy

Recently, former officials of the U.S. government and the U.S. intelligence system (IC) said that the current “politicization” of intelligence in assessing foreign government interference in U.S. elections and in evaluating allegations of election fraud is undermining U.S. democracy and will have long-term negative consequences.

The Politicization of Intelligence Is Undermining U.S. Democracy

Bart Marcois served in the Bush administration as deputy assistant secretary for energy for policy and international affairs. He said, “I think [the intelligence officials’ excuse for not being able to report by Dec. 18] is a lie, and it’s the work of bureaucrats within the intelligence system.”

Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe was notified by “career intelligence officials” on Dec. 16 that the Intelligence Community (IC) was unable to report on foreign government interference in the U.S. election by the Dec. 18 deadline of the president’s executive order. The officials explained that the IC had continued to receive new intelligence since the election and that many agencies had not completed their coordination efforts.

“I’ve never known the IC to say, ‘We don’t have enough information to answer your question,’ when they could have said, ‘We don’t have enough information, but this report is based on the information we have,'” Markos said, adding that the only conclusion is that – for political reasons – the IC intentionally blocked an assessment report against foreign government interference in the U.S. election.

He said, “They deliberately slowed it down and intentionally delayed it in order to prevent (the Trump team) from using this report as a basis to appeal to the Supreme Court or to move to state legislatures and Congress to nullify the Electoral College vote results.”

“The main problem is the irony that bureaucrats who have been in government for a long time have disregarded President Trump’s (Trump’s) authority over the past four years while Biden has been beholden to the Chinese Communist Party.” Markos said.

The executive order signed by President Trump in 2018 indicates that intelligence about foreign government interference in the U.S. election need not necessarily be officially reported by the director of national intelligence, and that the heads of intelligence agencies and any appropriate officials can submit relevant intelligence directly to the president at any time. The U.S. government will use this information to impose sanctions on relevant foreign governments, individuals or entities.

Former CIA official: Foreign interference in the U.S. election is a national disgrace

According to former CIA official Gary Berntsen, many experts warned of foreign interference in the U.S. election in 2016, as well as other election fraud.

It’s a national disgrace, a very, very unfortunate thing,” Berntsen said. It’s doubly sad that this is happening in the United States, and we are facing serious internal divisions.”

Berntsen said the Trump team now has only 15 to 20 days to reveal the truth about election fraud, and the past 15 to 20 days have been spent with no investigation at all by the national security department.

Berntsen has received the Distinguished Intelligence Medal and the Intelligence Star. He is known for his outstanding counterterrorism performance, having led CIA officers in the Afghan occupation of the capital Kabul and in the Battle ofTora Bora.

There is still a lot of controversy and lawsuits pending in the 2020 election,” said Berntsen. (The Trump team) has witnesses, sources, and now we’re seeing the first report on the technical aspects (of the voting machines). Only a foolish person would deny these allegations.”

He said the U.S. election was interfered by a number of foreign governments, including Venezuela, Cuba, China (Chinese Communist Party), Russia and Iran.

Foreign governments interfering in U.S. elections Communist China is the biggest threat

CBS News senior correspondent Catherine Herridge said Dec. 3 that Director of National Intelligence Ratcliffe is expected to release a report in January next year that will mention China (Communist Party of China), Iran and Russia as having interfered in the 2020 U.S. election.

Former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell told Fox News on Dec. 20 that the United States and the international community have not yet recognized that the Chinese Communist Party is a very clear crisis.

Intelligence Director Ratcliffe also wrote in the Wall Street Journal in early December that the Chinese Communist Party is currently the greatest threat to the United States and the greatest threat to freedom and democracy around the world since World War II.

In the article, he said, “The intelligence community is clear: The Beijing authorities are attempting to dominate the United States and even the world economically, militarily and technologically, and many Chinese public sectors and prominent companies are actually carrying out the orders of the Communist Party.”

William Evanina, director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, said in a statement last August that when foreign government interference in the U.S. election is discovered, the first people to question it should be China (the Chinese Communist Party), Iran and Russia.

Evanina said that prior to the November election, the Chinese Communist Party had been “expanding its influence” in an attempt to “create a political environment in the United States to suppress political figures that the Communist Party does not believe are in its interest and to reverse and refute critical voices against the Communist Party.”

In a recent interview, former federal prosecutor Sidney Powell said, “As long as we can show the extent of foreign interference in the U.S. election, and as long as we have evidence of foreign interference in the U.S. election, we can initiate a 2018 presidential executive order – the president can then exercise his authority to impose sanctions, including seizure and freezing of assets, seizure of voting machines, etc.”
