Graham Challenges Barr to Investigate Hunter Biden’s Overseas Transactions

On Monday (Dec. 21), Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he believes a thorough investigation into Hunter Biden’s overseas dealings, including in China, is warranted. This comes after Attorney General William Barr told the media that he has no plans to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hunter.

Graham said, “With all due respect to Attorney General Barr: My concern is that the scope of the Delaware investigation is limited to tax fraud and not a thorough investigation of Hunter Biden’s extensive business dealings with foreign countries.”

He continued, “The question facing this state is to what extent did Hunter Biden and his family have questionable business dealings with China, Russia and other countries that might have influenced the Biden administration’s foreign policy?”

“The investigative agencies need to take a broader view beyond the tax issue.”

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s team, released a statement from Biden’s father and son on Dec. 9. In the statement, Hunter Biden said he had just learned that he was under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware.

The office said it does not comment on ongoing investigations.

Hunter said he is being investigated because of his “tax affairs.

While Joe Biden served as vice president of the United States from 2009 to 2017, Hunter Biden also conducted business in China, Ukraine and other countries.

The Biden family scandal, known as “Biden Emailgate” or “Biden Computergate,” came to light in October when the New York Post first revealed that Hunter Biden had arranged a meeting between executives of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma and Joe Biden.

According to subsequent revelations, the Biden family had close ties with Chinese Communist Party-related companies and had made a number of suspicious illicit transactions. A former Biden family partner said that Joe Biden himself also received substantial benefits from them.

Peter Schweizer, the first American best-selling author to reveal the inner workings of the Biden family’s dealings with the Chinese Communist Party, also said in a Dec. 20 interview with Fox News that Joe Biden was a “direct beneficiary” of Hunter’s interests with foreign institutions.

“It’s not Hunter alone. Hunter has complained that he has to pay half of the entire family’s bills, meaning that his money flows indirectly to Joe Biden. But the fact is that Joe Biden is the direct beneficiary of Hunter’s foreign interests.” Schweitzer said.

In late 2019, the FBI had targeted Hunter Biden in a money laundering investigation, according to documents obtained by Fox News that were signed by FBI Special Agent Joshua Wilson. Multiple federal law enforcement officials, as well as two independent government officials, confirmed the authenticity of the documents obtained by Fox.

Prior to the election, Joe Biden’s camp said nothing about the investigation. In his first live interview since the investigation was revealed, he said opponents were using the investigation “to get at me.

Republicans want to appoint a special prosecutor to ensure that if Biden does take office, the investigation can continue unimpeded.

Under federal regulations, only the attorney general can fire a special prosecutor, and only for specific reasons, such as misconduct, malfeasance or conflict of interest, and those reasons must be stated in writing. The appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Hunt would mark the beginning of a much longer, independent investigation than is currently underway.

“I’m concerned now that this investigation will be suppressed,” said House Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) in a recent interview with Fox.

Democrats have no intention of appointing a special prosecutor, a view shared by Barr.

Barr, who is leaving office this week, said at an unrelated news conference in Washington, “So far, I have not seen a reason to appoint a special prosecutor, and I have no plans to do so until I leave.”

President Trump has accused Barr of influencing the outcome of the election by not making public that Joe Biden’s son was under investigation.

Barr defended himself last week, saying doing so would have violated a Justice Department rule that protects candidates and those around them from government influence.

Lawyers for Hunter Biden did not respond to requests for comment. Graham said Dec. 12 that lawyers for both he (Hunter) and James Biden, Joe Biden’s brother, have refused to cooperate with their monitoring efforts.
