British Prime Minister Johnson announced that the alert level of the London outbreak has been upgraded to level 4.
The World health Organization (WHO) has alerted European countries to reinforce precautionary measures following the emergence of cases of a new variant of the Chinese Communist virus disease in the UK, and said it will continue to keep in touch with the UK and update individual WHO member states on the latest information on the variant.
The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe told AFP today that the WHO has called on European member states to strengthen preventive measures due to the spread of a new variant of the Chinese communist virus disease (COVID-19, Wuhan pneumonia) in the United Kingdom.
In response to the emergence of cases of the new variant of the virus strain in the UK, British Prime Minister Johnson held a press conference to warn that the new variant of the virus strain may increase the infection rate by 70% compared to the old strain and announced that the alert level for the London outbreak was upgraded to level 4. Many European countries, including Germany, France, the Netherlands and other countries, have imposed a ban on flights to the UK.
According to AFP, in response to the emergence of a variant of the virus in the United Kingdom, the WHO Regional Office for Europe spokesperson also made an appeal, reminding countries must redouble their control and prevention measures.
The WHO said through a Twitter post on the 20th that “we are in close contact with British officials regarding the new variant of the Chinese communist virus disease,” and that the WHO will continue to share information on their outbreak analysis and ongoing research.
WHO has pledged to continue to update WHO member states on the latest information related to the variant virus.
