Variant virus ravages Britain, WHO calls on Europe to strengthen prevention

The World health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe told AFP today that the WHO has called on European member states to intensify preventive measures due to the spread of a new variant of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) virus in the United Kingdom.

According to WHO, outside of the UK, Denmark has also reported nine cases of the new strain of the virus, the Netherlands has one case, and one case has been reported in Australia.

A spokesperson for the WHO Regional Office for Europe said, “The outbreak is spreading rapidly and widely across Europe, and countries must redouble their control and prevention measures.”
