U.S. SHIELD-class destroyer passes through Taiwan Strait for the 12th time this year

The U.S. Seventh Fleet Pacific issued a press release stating that the USS Muscatine, an Arleigh Burke-class Guardian-class guided missile destroyer, sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Saturday (19) in accordance with international law. The press release said the U.S. ship sailed through the Taiwan Strait to demonstrate the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The U.S. military will continue to conduct flights, navigation and other missions as permitted by international law.

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said a U.S. Navy combat ship sailed through the Taiwan Strait from north to south and then continued southward. During the U.S. ship through the Taiwan Strait, the national army used joint intelligence monitoring and reconnaissance, the whole process of mastering the surrounding sea and airspace related dynamics, the situation is normal. According to public information from the Department of Defense and the U.S. Army Facebook page, this is the 12th time this year that a U.S. ship has passed through the Taiwan Strait, less than a month after the last time the ship passed through the Taiwan Strait.

The Burke-class guided missile destroyer is a multi-purpose warship, capable of attacking air, surface and underwater simultaneously, performing air defense and anti-submarine missions, and is the backbone of the U.S. Navy.
