President Trump plans to issue a wave of pardons today, accelerating the pardons before Christmas, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation who spoke to Axios.
President Trump pardoned his former national security adviser Michael Flynn just moments before that.
Reports say it’s unclear who will be included in the batch.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) called on Trump to pardon Edward Snowden in an article in The Federalist on Thursday. A source with direct knowledge of the plan said they do not expect President Trump to follow through with a pardon for Snowden.
Trump has reportedly considered several controversial pardons, including those of his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
By the numbers. President Trump’s pardon rate is lower than that of his predecessors.
According to the Pew Research Center, as of late November, Trump had granted only 44 pardons – the fewest of any president since at least William McKinley (William McKinley).
