From January to October this year, 7,474 Hong Kong people have been granted residence permits in Taiwan and 1,272 Hong Kong people have been granted settlement permits in Taiwan, Taiwan Land Commission deputy director and spokesman Chiu Chui-ching said Thursday.
He pointed out that the Republic of China government inaugurated the “Taiwan-Hong Kong Service Exchange Office” on July 1 this year to assist Hong Kong people in immigration, settlement, investment, employment and schooling in Taiwan.
He said that the Taiwan-Hong Kong Service Exchange Office has received more than 1,700 service cases, the vast majority of which are immigration, settlement, investment, schooling, employment and other inquiries.
According to statistics, from January to October this year, 7,474 Hong Kong people have been granted residence permits (to study or work, etc.) in Taiwan and 1,272 Hong Kong people have been granted settlement permits (having obtained identity cards) in Taiwan, with the highest number of Hong Kong people arriving in Taiwan in October, when 1,974 people obtained residence permits and 128 people obtained settlement permits.
In the wake of the anti-sending storm and Hong Kong’s national security law, Hong Kong has recently seen a wave of immigration to Taiwan.
