Attorney General “Barr” Silent for Months on Hunter Biden Investigation

On Dec. 11, NewsMax reported, citing the Wall Street Journal, that Attorney General Bill Barr kept two federal investigations involving Hunter Biden under wraps for months.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Barr had known about the two investigations since at least the spring and had worked to avoid public disclosure during the campaign.

The newspaper credited its Dec. 10 report to a source familiar with the matter.

Barr decided to keep quiet about the investigations, despite months of pressure from Republicans and President Donald Trump to investigate Joe Biden’s son.

But the Wall Street Journal noted that Justice Department guidelines cautioned investigators against any public action as the election approached, lest they be seen as trying to influence the outcome.

On the evening of Dec. 10, Trump blasted the FBI and the Justice Department over the news that Hunter Biden was under federal investigation. He demanded to know why the investigation was not announced before the November election.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware opened an investigation into Hunter Biden in late 2018 before his father became a presidential candidate, according to the New York Times. It included an investigation into possible violations of money laundering and tax laws. Sources close to the investigation said the money laundering portion of the case did not gain traction.

And the Wall Street Journal reports that federal prosecutors in Manhattan have also been investigating Hunter Biden’s business and financial dealings. While Hunter Biden has been implicated in that investigation, he has never been the subject of a criminal prosecution, the Wall Street Journal said.
