Taiwan’s first Anping-class patrol ship officially launched

Taiwan’s first Anping-class patrol ship was launched. Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen attended the launching ceremony at the CITIC Shipyard in Kaohsiung on Friday (Dec. 11). In addition to celebrating the official launch of the first 600-ton Anping-class patrol ship, Friday’s ceremony also included the naming and launching of the second Chenggong ship and the delivery of the 35-ton patrol boat PP-3589.

Taiwan media reported that the Anping is an advanced catamaran, a dual-purpose ship, which can be equipped with missiles during war and can carry up to 16 anti-ship missiles. Analysis suggests that the delivery of the Anping is a boost to Taiwan’s plans to strengthen its defense capabilities in the face of growing threats from Beijing.

With a maximum speed of over 43 knots and a high-pressure water cannon with a maximum range of 120 meters, the Anping can carry out rescue and rescue operations at sea, boarding and inspection of land vessels crossing the border, as well as repelling them.

Since the second half of this year, a large number of Chinese sand pumping vessels have been frequenting around Matsu Island in Taiwan. These sand pumping vessels have even entered Taiwan’s waters to seize resources, and their illegal sand mining activities have caused the erosion of Taiwan’s coastline. The picture of these sand pumping boats that cross the border from time to time, densely packed at sea, is shocking, but fortunately, colleagues from the Coast Guard quickly disposed of them and lifted the situation in a short time, which is the determination to patrol the eight sea borders.

The company’s main goal is to provide the best possible solution to the problem.

The Taiwan Executive Yuan in 2017 approved a “plan for the development of sea patrol vessels”, with 10 years (2018 to 2027) to build 141 new sea patrol vessels of various types. Tsai Ing-wen said that the 10-year “plan for the development of sea patrol ships” is expected to build more than a hundred ships will be national ships, which can drive the development and upgrading of Taiwan’s shipbuilding industry.
