Texas gets 17 state endorsements! Asking the Supreme Court to overturn Biden’s win, Trump announces intervention

Representatives of 17 U.S. states told the Supreme Court on Dec. 9 local time that they support a lawsuit filed earlier by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that seeks to overturn election results in four other key swing states, Russian media reported. In those states, President-elect Joe Biden won for allegedly illegally changing election rules to weaken the integrity of the vote.

The states supporting the Texas lawsuit include Alabama, Arkansas, West Virginia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Tennessee, Florida, South Dakota, South Carolina, and Utah. These states have filed so-called “amicus curiae” briefs. In the U.S. legal system, amicus curiae are not de facto parties to a case, but serve as third parties to the court and even participate in oral arguments, and may offer opinions on legal proceedings.

The Texas attorney general previously filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Supreme Court against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin over the election results. He argued that these states did not comply with ballot processing regulations, including mail-in ballots, and said that the “illegal election results” won by Biden in these states should be declared unconstitutional and invalid.

Texas asked the Supreme Court to rule that “any Electoral College votes cast by the presidential electors appointed by those states cannot be counted.”

Then, incumbent Trump vowed to intervene in a lawsuit filed by Texas with the U.S. Supreme Court aimed at overturning the election results in four other states. Trump tweeted, “We will intervene in the Texas (and many other states) lawsuit. This is a big deal. Our country needs to win!” Trump, however, did not specify whether his campaign or the Justice Department would intervene in the case in question.
