U.S. Election Bookies Favor Trump

The U.S. presidential election will be held on November 3, and polls seem to be favoring Democratic candidate Biden. But punters are predicting a different outcome, betting on the re-election of the Republican incumbent, Donald Trump.

Some bets in Australia and the United Kingdom now favor a Trump victory. Since U.S. law prohibits betting on the results of national or local elections, all gambling is done on offshore gaming sites, and Americans are sometimes able to participate as well.

Today’s handicapping shows that a $100 bet on Trump winning the election will net the player $190 if he wins.

Rupert Adams, a spokesman for the British gaming company William Hill, said: “The momentum now looks undoubtedly back on the favorable end of the spectrum for President Trump.” William Hill has so far collected more than $1.3 million in U.S. election wagers.

Lee Price, a spokesman for Irish gaming company Paddy Power, said that betting activity had slowed due to the epidemic, but that gambler sentiment had “started to pick up again in recent weeks.

Price told AFP: “We think gamblers are definitely going to stay interested in the Trump factor.”

In the 2016 presidential election, Manhattan real estate mogul Donald Trump ended up with a surprising victory over vocal Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Many who bet on Trump to win are now hoping for a repeat of the 2016 results.

Since the end of July, Trump’s approval rating has slowly picked up, closing the gap with Joe Biden.
