U.S. Ambassador to the UN Calls for More Americans to Enter the UN System to Fight Beijing

U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Kelly Craft said in a conversation with a U.S. senator Thursday (Sept. 10) that more Americans and like-minded countries must be brought into the U.N. system in order to better confront China. According to the ambassador, the Huawei issue shows the world that the Chinese Communist Party and its leader Xi Jinping have a pattern of concealment, procrastination and lies.

Responding to a question about how the United States can use international organizations and its influence within them to confront the Chinese Communist Party, Ambassador Craft said Thursday in a live conversation on social media Instagram with longtime China-focused Republican Federal Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee that more Americans should be allowed into these international organizations, especially the UN Secretariat.

I think, first of all, we have to make sure that we bring more Americans and like-minded countries into the UN system,” she said. It’s very unbalanced in terms of the number of Americans in the U.N. Secretariat. The Secretariat is part of the U.N. system.”

The ambassador said that when there are more U.S. representatives in these bodies, there is transparency, accountability and effectiveness. This can be seen in the World Food and Agriculture Organization and UNESCO, agencies that are headed by Americans.

Ambassador Krafft also said that she would take every opportunity to mention China in discussions at the UN Security Council, no matter what the topic, and try to mention what China does in every statement. She said that the United States should make it clear to the world what is happening in China with regard to human rights.
