The Federal Government has released detailed statistics on the 2019-20 Migration Program for the 2019-20 financial year.
Federal Minister for Population and Acting Minister for Immigration Alan Tudge confirmed in a statement that Australia will absorb 140,366 permanent resident migrants in the 2019-20 financial year.
70% of permanent residency visas were issued to skilled immigrants (95,843 total), including 4,109 slots under the Global Talent-Independent program for high-level skills, which will be launched in November 2019.
A total of 25,000 visas for rural areas were issued, with 23,372 visas issued last fiscal year, up 27% from FY 2018-19.
41,961 visas, including 37,118 partner visas, were issued under the Family Program.
In the last financial year, two-thirds of permanent residence visas were issued to people in Australia.
A total of 13,171 humanitarian visas were issued in 2019-20, including 4,765 to people recommended for settlement in rural areas.
Alan Thacher said in a statement that the federal government will consider the migration quota and humanitarian visa program for the 2020-21 fiscal year in light of the new coronary pneumonia outbreak, which will be announced in October as part of the new federal budget.
