Twenty-one Republican Federal Representatives and four newly-elected Republican Representatives have issued an open letter asking Attorney General William Barr to open an investigation into Georgia’s elections and to issue an injunction to prevent groups from creating illegal ballots in the January 5 Georgia Federal Senate runoff election.
The co-sponsor of the petition is Mo Brooks, who said, “The evidence is overwhelming. The evidence is overwhelming that the election process in Georgia has been compromised by voter fraud and vote-theft,” he said. The perpetrators of these heinous acts must be investigated and, where possible, prosecuted.”
The following is a translation of the full text of the co-signed open letter.
The Honorable Attorney General Barr.
The key to a successful republic rests on two pillars – electoral integrity and (the people’s) confidence in the nation’s democratic process. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Monday that the Secretary of State’s office is investigating various groups in the state that are attempting to create illegal ballots. Because the Secretary of State’s office lacks prosecutorial power, we are asking the Department of Justice to conduct a parallel investigation and prosecute the illegal activity under federal law. In addition, we ask that you exercise your Attorney General’s authority to issue a preliminary injunction to prevent any organization from manufacturing illegal ballots in the upcoming Georgia U.S. Senate election on January 5.
Previously, these groups were accused of registering a deceased Alabamian as a voter, encouraging out-of-state voters (in Georgia) to vote illegally, and intentionally sending Georgia voter registration applications out of state – as far away as New York.
“Operation New Voter Registration Georgia is accused of violating several federal laws by encouraging college students to temporarily change their address and then vote in the January 5 Senate re-election. See 252 U.S.C. § 10307(c) and 18 U.S.C. § 371 (252 U.S.C. § 10307(c) & 18 U.S.C. § 371).
“Vote Forward’s attempt to register a dead person as a voter also violates federal law. See 52 U.S.C. §§ 10307(c) and (e), 20511(2) (52 U.S.C. §§ 10307(c), 10307(e), 20511(2)).
“America Votes and the New Georgia Project and its founder, Democrat Stacey Abrams, were accused of sending voter registration applications to invalid addresses.
Under federal law, the Attorney General has the authority to issue an emergency injunction when there is reasonable cause to believe that a person will engage in any election offense. See 52 USC § 10308(d) (52 USC § 10308(d)).
We strongly urge you to enforce the Attorney General’s authority to issue an injunction or temporary restraining order prohibiting these agencies from generating illegal votes in the upcoming Senate runoff election. Swift action must be taken to ensure that illegal ballots are not allowed to dilute the rights of legitimate voters.
Thank you for your timely attention to this matter.
Earlier this week, Barr told the media that “to date we have not found any fraud that could affect the outcome of the election.” The statement sparked controversy.
Brooks, the sponsor of the above-mentioned open letter, tweeted on December 3 about the recently revealed Georgia fraud video. He said, “Georgia ‘poll workers’ told Republican poll watchers to leave, then pulled out boxes full of ballots hidden under tables. They entered those ballots into the voting machines for two hours.”
The Washington Observer quoted Brooks’ statement as saying, “No one should have to do this – someone hid a box containing approximately 15,000 to 18,000 ballots under a table before the counting station opened, announced the end of the count at 10:30 p.m., and told all the poll watchers and The media left the counting station, but five staff members (and possible accomplices) dragged out boxes and removed thousands of ballots without the presence of poll watchers to enter these potentially illegal and fraudulent ballots into the counting machines. However, this is just the latest video from one polling place.”
