Following President Trump’s October 2 announcement that he and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the new coronavirus, many world leaders and celebrities have issued statements and sent best wishes to Trump and his family via social media.
Following British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Russian President Vladimir Putin, World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres extended his best wishes to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a speedy and full recovery.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also one of the first heads of state to express support for Trump. India, a country with a population of more than 1.3 billion, has reported the second highest number of new coronavirus infections in the world, with nearly 6.4 million confirmed cases and more than 99,000 deaths.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in a statement Friday through a spokeswoman: “I send my best wishes to Donald Trump and Melania Trump. I wish them a speedy and full recovery from the coronavirus infection.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who met with Trump in Washington in mid-September and joined the leaders of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates in signing the Abrahamic Accords peace agreement, also wished Trump a speedy recovery.

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša also tweeted his best wishes for a speedy recovery to the Trumps. Melania Trump was born and raised in Slovenia, the former Yugoslav federation, and is a citizen of Slovenia in addition to her U.S. citizenship.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador wished Trump a speedy recovery in a videoconference with reporters.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying tweeted, “I was saddened to learn that the U.S. President and First Lady have tested positive for the new coronavirus. I hope they will both recover soon and all goes well.”
However, the Global Times, a subsidiary of People’s Daily, made critical comments, claiming that “this may have a negative impact on his re-election. According to the Global Times, President Trump and the First Lady have paid a price for downplaying the neo-coronavirus epidemic.
