According to the Sunday Times, the British government will issue a new Fair Borders Bill that will deny asylum to all those who enter the country in a gradual manner.
The Sunday Times quoted Home Secretary Patricia Patten as saying that the government will introduce a Fair Borders Bill to deny asylum to people who enter the country in a gradual manner or by boat across the English Channel. The bill will also state that new facilities will be opened to accommodate and process asylum seekers, and that foreign criminals and asylum seekers who are not at risk will be deported.
We want to create a safe and legal route for people fleeing persecution and oppression,” she said, noting that the current practice of treating all people the same, regardless of which way they come to the U.K. for asylum, “is incorrect. We want to create a safe and legal route for people fleeing persecution and oppression, and at the same time send a signal that if you go through an illegal route, we will not accept your request”.
