U.S. Launches Airstrikes Against Iranian-Backed Militants in Iraq and Syria

The U.S. military launched airstrikes Sunday against Iranian-backed militants in Iraq and Syria in response to drone attacks by those militants on U.S. personnel and facilities in Iraq, the Pentagon said, according to Reuters.

The Pentagon said the strikes targeted combat and weapons storage facilities, including two sites in Syria and one in Iraq.

In a statement, the Pentagon said, “As tonight’s air strikes demonstrate, President Biden has made clear that he will act to protect U.S. personnel.”
