In addition to ruthlessly suppressing dissent at home, the Communist Party of China (CPC) also opposes overseas criticism with a wolf-like outcry. New Zealand political scientist Anne-Marie Brady, who has been actively exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s overseas united front, recently published a research report accusing New Zealand’s universities and high-tech companies of having superficial relations with the Chinese Communist Party. In response, more than 120 scholars around the world have come out in support of Professor Anne, questioning the authorities’ desire to revise the report and demanding an immediate apology.
The European Values Think-Tank pointed out that Professor Anne, a renowned academic currently teaching at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, recently published a research report, which was submitted to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Justice for review. High-tech companies have close ties to the Chinese Communist Party, and may have transferred sensitive technology to the PLA. Immediately after the report was released, the University of Canterbury received a large number of complaints about what appeared to be “obvious factual inaccuracies and innuendoes” from the Chinese side, which prompted the University of Canterbury to follow up with an investigation.
Subsequently, more than 120 scholars on China issues from around the world signed a joint statement through the European Values Think Tank, expressing support for Professor Anne’s research to Cheryl de la Rey, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury, insisting that the report contains no obvious errors or misleading statements, calling the Chinese allegations unfounded, and criticizing the university for not clarifying in the first place. A position that calls into question the university’s desire to change the content of the report and demands an immediate apology. Shout out to Cheryl for “asking you to support the right of any member of your university to freely publish the results of their research”!
Jakub Janda, Director of the Center for Security Policy at the European Values Think Tank, also tweeted on August 8 that Professor Anne is a “leader” in exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s international misdeeds, and that with the support of more than 120 international scholars, “she is not alone! “
In 2017, after revealing that the Chinese Communist Party is seeking overseas expansion through global united front work, Annie’s home and office were broken into and burglarized by unknown persons, and she also received threatening letters and numerous anonymous phone calls in the middle of the night. Overseas scholars extinguish the sound of the Wolf Offensive.”
