U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday unveiled the National Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technologies, which aims to ensure U.S. leadership in related fields, including artificial intelligence, energy, semiconductors, cyber technologies and more, and criticized China, Russia and other countries by name for their actions.
The White House said in a statement the same day that the United States will no longer turn a blind eye to the tactics of China, Russia and other countries, including stealing technology, forcing foreign companies to share their intellectual property, and violating free and fair markets.
The statement added that the United States will establish a series of priority action areas to protect the innovation base of its national security and solidify U.S. technological advantages, including closing regulatory gaps, insisting that all parties honor agreements, and working with like-minded allies and partners to advance their shared values.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said the same day that the Commerce Department fully supports the president’s strategy and has implemented export controls on 37 emerging technologies. The reporter noted that these controlled technologies cover chemical, aerospace, electronics, biotechnology and other fields.
