Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have become a playground for Islamic movements to spread hatred and for young people to turn to radicalized classrooms. Videos of extremist Islamist forces targeting French teacher Patti circulate on Facebook. Some of these videos have been reported more than 200,000 times, regardless of the background. The French Undersecretary of Civic Affairs met today with representatives of several social media platforms in France to discuss how to combat the spread of online Islamism.
Samuel Paty, a French history and geography teacher, was beheaded and killed by a Chechen Islamist terrorist for teaching a class showing cartoons of the Prophet of Islam and speaking about the value of freedom of expression. Social media platforms were subsequently targeted for indulging radical Islamist forces in spreading hatred.
According to French media outlet BFMTV, videos of radical Islamists spreading hate have been reported more than 200,000 times on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, with no one in the background looking the other way.
Islamic extremists take full advantage of France’s rule of law and freedom of speech to spread Islamic extremism and hatred. They are trying to take advantage of France’s refusal to go against its own values to expand the influence of Islam and gradually erode French values and the principles of the republic, to make people submit to the “rules” of Islam in fear, and ultimately to destroy democracy and freedom in France’s secular society altogether.
Marlène Schiappa, French Undersecretary of State for Civic Affairs, met with representatives of Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, and Snapchat in Paris today, October 20, to discuss ways to combat the spread of online Islamism.
I want these social platforms to take their share of responsibility and remove hateful content (from their platforms),” said French Citizenship Undersecretary Ziappa on Radio Luxembourg this morning. She said that the murderers of the Patti teachers were influenced by an Islamist ideology. And this ideology is often times spread through social networks. She said that a large number of young people did not become radicalized in mosques or meet people or in prison, but were transformed alone, in their rooms, in front of their phone screens.
French history teacher Samuel Patti was brutally beheaded and killed by an 18-year-old Chechen Islamist terrorist in Conflans-Sait-Honorine, the city north of Paris where he taught, on October 16. A video of extremist Islam hating the teacher was posted on social networking sites, including the imam of the mosque in Pantin, a suburb east of Paris, who forwarded the video to his 1,500 followers on his Facebook page.
Today, a number of normal Islamic religious leaders prayed for the slain French history teacher, Pati, in front of his school. Tomorrow, Wednesday, France will hold a state funeral for the murdered teacher Samuel Patti at the Sorbonne University in Paris. President Macron will preside over the funeral.
