In the United States, the question of what is left-wing and what is right-wing is a complex issue that outsiders cannot understand.
The two ideologies, left and right, are expressed in different ways in different nation-states. For example, in China before 1949, if Mao Zedong of Yan’an was a representative of the left, then Chiang Kai-shek was recognized as a right-winger.
But if Chiang Kai-shek was right-wing, and Mao Zedong, who militarily annihilated Yan’an, was “extreme right” or even Chinese Nazi by today’s standards, then Chiang Kai-shek himself believed in Confucianism, Confucianism, the philosophy of Wang Yangming, and, together with Soong Mei-ling, Christianity, were Confucianism and Christianity the source of “extreme right fascist” values?
Many militia groups in the American South, advocating for the defense of the Washington Constitution, have been hailed by Trump as patriots. Americans who support Trump are essentially more patriotic than those who support the Democratic Party. In other words, the United States has its own nationalism.
If American nationalism is extreme right-wing, then how about Nasser, the nationalist leader who defended Egypt’s resources and the rights of the Suez Canal during the Suez Canal crisis with his nationalism?
Sun Yat-sen’s Three Principles of the People: Nationalism, Livelihood, and Civil Rights. The first of these is nationalism, so is Sun Yat-sen a representative of the extreme right wing of the Chinese people?
Controversies of all kinds have been wasted by many social science and political history scholars for a hundred years. One of the biggest problems is that if the White Left theory of the East and West coasts of the United States is to be supreme, it becomes “intellectual colonization”. In the eyes of Chinese scholars, the distinction between left and right is based on the standard of Western Marxism. As soon as this academic standard left Western civilization and was applied to other Third World peoples, including China, it immediately changed, creating cognitive confusion.
For a hundred years, a large number of Chinese intellectuals and media have been caught in the maze of language and the demon of thought that is left and right, and have been unable to find a way out. Then they used the dogma of the left-right consciousness pattern, either looking at the Soviet Union to imitate, or watching the United States to learn, and have been muddling around until today.
However, the industrial and commercial circles in society, especially in Hong Kong after 1949, ignored the pestering of politicians and pundits, and groped for survival in the market economy and worked hard to become rich, creating a different situation. Since the upper “ideological circles” were muddled with controversy, they were afraid of politics and did not know what was going on in the upper circles. From Hu Xue-yan to Ma Yun, as long as the private Chinese people have the means to get rich, they will be the victims of the “politics” of the upper echelons of the ghosts fighting against the ghosts of internal commotion and struggle.
This is the reason why private enterprises in mainland China never feel safe, and if they accumulate wealth, they will definitely move their families and children to the United States and Canada. However, while they are running, their mouths are singing the political score of the left-right struggle along with the popular situation, which they do not believe in their hearts. For a long time, this has led to a serious split in the Chinese people’s personality.
The reason for this is that the left-right issue has not been clearly understood by this nation for a hundred years, starting from the first lesson.
