Faced with the increasing threat from China, more and more international friends are expressing their support for democracy and freedom in Taiwan, and Vice-President of the European Parliament Nicola Beer told the Central News Agency that in addition to promoting cooperation between Europe and Taiwan, she will take action to support this and hopes to visit Taiwan as soon as the epidemic situation allows.
According to Taiwan’s Central News Agency (Taiwan Central News Agency), on December 4, Nicola Beer, German Vice President of the European Parliament, held a videoconference with Tsai Mingyan, representative in the European Union and in Belgium, to express her position on supporting freedom and democracy in Taiwan and the situation in Hong Kong.
On behalf of the Legislative Yuan, she invited Biel to visit Taiwan. In response, Biel expressed her willingness to visit Taiwan. In response to an emailed reply to a reporter from the Central News Agency, her office said on March 3 that in promoting deeper cooperation between Europe and Taiwan, she believes that specific actions include starting negotiations on a European-Taiwan Free Trade Agreement as soon as possible, supporting Taiwan’s participation as an observer in international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), strengthening regular exchanges between EU members and the Taiwan Parliament, and innovative cooperation in the field of science.
In November, she participated in a joint letter from members of the European Parliament to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization, supporting Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA), which resumes in November.
