China Qinghai Mado County 7.4 magnitude earthquake two highway bridge collapse

China’s national seismic network monitoring shows that at 2:04 on May 22, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Mado County, Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Guo Yong, deputy director of the Qinghai Provincial Emergency Management Department, said that the Qinghai Common Jade Expressway Noma Tan No. 2 Bridge collapsed, Huajiu Expressway Changma River Bridge collapsed, and the two highways have been closed for investigation. Other national and provincial trunk lines are seriously damaged, deformed, bulging, etc. are being repaired. Electricity main line is running normally, damaged local is being repaired.

Qinghai Provincial Earthquake Bureau deputy director Ma Yuhu said, according to preliminary information now, the earthquake occurred, the province-wide general earthquake felt, Xining felt strongly, Maduo County city, Huashixia town, the Yellow River township felt strongly, there are individual fences collapsed, no casualties have been reported.

According to the website of the China Earthquake Network Center, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Mado County, Goluo Prefecture, Qinghai, at 2:04 p.m. Beijing time on May 22, with strong tremors felt in Xining.

The epicenter was located at 34.59 degrees north latitude and 98.34 degrees east longitude, with a source depth of 17.0 kilometers.

In the early morning of May 22, Xining citizens took refuge in an open area.
