A Trafalgar Group poll on the 2024 election released Tuesday, May 18, shows that Republican voters are slightly more loyal to their leaders than Democratic voters are to their leaders.
Nearly 37 percent of Democrats said they would “definitely” vote for President Biden in the 2024 primary, and 20.7 percent said they would “probably” vote for the incumbent, for a total of 57.4 percent, according to the poll.
By contrast, nearly half, or 49.1 percent, of Republican voters said they would support former President Trump if he ran in the 2024 Republican primary. Another 34.9 percent of voters said they would vote for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) if Trump did not run.
The poll showed that Trump’s absolute support in the Republican Party was 12 points higher than Biden’s absolute support in the Democratic Party.
The poll also found that 26 percent of Democrats said they would vote for someone else if Biden did not run in the 2024 election, with 41.3 percent saying they would support Vice President Kamala Harris.
Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jaime Harrison said in early April that the Democratic Party’s “gold standard” had been broken and that it needed broader support.
He said, “So I’ve had to spend a lot of time and effort to understand why the Democratic Party is in the position it’s in, how it’s going to evolve, and what we can do to improve it.”
The poll, conducted by the Trafalgar Group, had a 95 percent confidence rating.
