According to WHO information, until May 20, including Belize, Swaziland, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Marshall Islands, Nonu, Nicaragua, Palau, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tuvalu. St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Tuvalu have proposed to invite Taiwan to participate in the WHA as an observer.
Among Taiwan’s 15 friends, except for the Holy See, which is an observer, we have not yet seen a proposal from Paraguay, and it is unclear whether it will be in some other form for Taiwan.
After the WHO receives the proposal, it will be placed on the WHA supplementary agenda according to the rules of procedure, and will be considered by the WHA General Affairs Committee, at which time the Taiwan-supporting and China-supporting countries will speak separately, and the General Assembly will decide whether to include Taiwan in the agenda.
The WHA is the highest authority of the World Health Organization (WHO), which meets once a year to determine WHO’s policy direction. from 2009 to 2016, Taiwan was invited to participate in the WHA as an observer for eight consecutive years; however, due to the Chinese Communist Party’s suppression, Taiwan has not been invited to participate for five consecutive years since 2017.
