China launched the Long March 4B rocket at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on the 19th of this month. The official issued a warning about the falling rocket wreckage and evacuated the people in a specific area beforehand, but the actual area where the rocket fell was 250 kilometers away from the official warning range.
According to foreign media reports, China launched the Long March 4B rocket on May 19 to put the Ocean 2D satellite into near-Earth orbit, and Chinese officials issued a “notice on evacuation and evacuation of residents in the area at risk of rocket wreckage fall” on May 17, asking people in seven villages, including Shuanghe, Yongfeng, Liangzhuang, Silong, Minle, Jinshan and Yongxing, in Silong Town, Gansu Province, to evacuate before the rocket launch.
Officials pointed out that the evacuated people would be placed in local parks or transferred to other areas to wait for the rocket wreckage to fall, and one-way traffic control was implemented on the roads outside the area.
Fortunately, there were no residential buildings or pedestrians underneath, so no casualties were caused. The huge error in the official forecast was also mocked by Chinese netizens, who posted on Weibo that “the wreckage landed in an unoccupied area in Li Dian Town, Jing Ning County, Tong Wei, Gansu Province, and landed in the target area as planned.
