If China attacks Taiwan, nearly 80% of Taiwanese are willing to put on armor to resist.

Tensions continue to rise in the Taiwan Strait, with the latest poll in Taiwan showing that more than 75% of Taiwanese will go to war to defend their homeland if the mainland reunifies Taiwan with China. The poll also points out that if the two sides fight over the implementation of Taiwan’s “Taiwan independence” by the Taiwan authorities, there are still more than 65% of the public willing to join the war.

The Taiwan International Institute for Strategic Studies (TISS) and the Taiwan Institute of International Studies (TIS) released their latest poll report on Saturday (24th). The Institute pointed out that the content of the poll also involves the public’s position on U.S.-Taiwan cooperation, which asked if the mainland and the United States outbreak of a head-on conflict, which may threaten Taiwan’s security, the public is willing to fight alongside the United States against the mainland. According to the results, nearly 60% of the respondents said they would be willing to fight alongside the U.S. against the mainland and 25% said they would not. In addition, the U.S.-Taiwan relationship has become closer in recent years, and more than half of the respondents believe that the U.S. will send troops to help Taiwan. However, more than 90% of the people want the two sides of the Taiwan Strait to live peacefully and avoid war.

The Institute said that the poll successfully interviewed 1,076 Taiwanese people over the age of 20, and the interview period is from the 21st to 22nd of this month. The poll reflects the determination of the Taiwanese people to protect their homeland even in the face of threats from the mainland, and their confidence in military cooperation between Taiwan and the United States. However, the people of Taiwan still do not want to go to war with China unless they are forced to do so.
