In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo argues that the real cost of Israel’s ongoing turmoil is for the Iranian regime, which supports Hamas, to pay, yet the Biden administration has failed to demonstrate deterrence.
The turmoil in Israel, where Hamas terrorists have fired thousands of rockets and missiles into Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and elsewhere, is the worst hostilities between Palestinians and Israelis in nearly a decade. Pompeo placed the blame first and foremost on Hamas terrorists, but also pointed to Hamas’ Iranian supporters, as well as the weak Iran policy of the U.S. Biden administration, as reasons for the unrest in Israel.
Pompeo said, “First of all, it is absolutely true that these two weeks of unrest in Israel must be blamed on the Palestinian Islamic Jihadists and Hamas. Secondly, the financial, military and economic power needed for the thousands of missiles fired by the terrorists came from the Islamic Republic of Iran. “
Pompeo argued that “the real cost is going to be paid by the Iranian regime that supported the Gaza attack. If the U.S. government does not make it clear that the Iranians will pay for this act of terror, the Iranians will feel free to do whatever they want, and the end result for the United States will be not only higher energy prices, but young American men and women perhaps fighting in distant lands. The previous U.S. administration established a deterrent to Iran that the Biden administration did not.”
Pompeo said, “It is important to note that the Biden administration is sitting in Vienna to this day, negotiating with the Iranian regime that sponsored Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel. It seems to be telling Iran, ‘The United States is going to make a deal with Iran where Iran can get billions of dollars to buy missiles and rockets to replace those that fly from Gaza to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.’ How crazy is that?”
