U.S. Space Squadron Commander Removed for Words Conservative Congressman Criticizes

Matthew Lohmeier, commander of the 11th Space Warning Squadron in the U.S. Air Force, was removed from his post after recently expressing concern on a talk show about the prevalence of Marxism in the U.S. military. The incident has generated widespread attention in the United States, with Lohmeier’s new book topping the Amazon best-seller list and conservative members of Congress speaking out against the decision by the U.S. Space Operations Command.

On Sunday (May 16), the U.S. Space Force released a statement to various news outlets confirming that it relieved Lohmeier, commander of the 11th Space Warning Squadron, of his duties.

On May 14, Space Operations Command Commander Stephen Whiting relieved Lt. Col. Lohmeier of command of the Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado, because “[the commander] lost trust and confidence in his leadership,” the statement read. “.

The statement noted that the decision was based on public comments made by Lt. Col. Lomair in a recent podcast.

Last week, Lomair spoke on a conservative podcast about his new online self-published book, “Irresistible Revolution: Marxism’s Goal of Conquest & the Unmaking of the American Military” (The Unmaking of the American Military,” warns of the spread of “neo-Marxist” ideology in the U.S. military. He emphasizes that his book is not political, but rather a warning about the increasing politicization of the U.S. military.

Lohmeier said he was very concerned about this. He also noted that a growing leftist style is emerging in universities, the media and in the military, and that this is a major cause of division in the United States.

“What we’re seeing in the U.S. military right now is that if you’re a conservative and you’re willing to express your views, then you’re lumped into a group that’s labeled as extremists.” He added, “However, if you align yourself with the left, it’s OK for you to be an active leftist online (yet) because no one will hold you accountable.”

Lohmeier’s aforementioned comments led to his removal from office, but his new book, worth $17.95, surged in sales on Amazon, at one point jumping to the top of the bestseller list.

A number of Republican members of Congress tweeted criticism of Lohmeier’s removal from office on Sunday (16).

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called the action “disturbing.

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) said Lohmeier was simply telling the truth and that the military’s removal was clearly “vindictive.

Rep. Ken Buck (D-Colo.) tweeted, “It is outrageous that Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier was removed from command of the Space Force for expressing concerns about the prevailing Marxist ideology in the U.S. military.”

Lohmeier graduated from the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in 2006; he served in the Air Force for 14 years before moving to the Space Force in October 2020, according to publicly available information.
