Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou arrived in a Canadian court on Monday for five days of witness testimony, the latest round of hearings in Canada’s quest to extradite her to the United States.
The five-day hearing will focus on whether Canadian and U.S. authorities abused the legal process during Meng’s arrest at Vancouver International Airport in December 2018, Reuters news agency said.
Meng, 48, was charged with bank fraud in the United States for allegedly misleading HSBC about Huawei’s business dealings in Iran, which resulted in the bank violating U.S. sanctions laws.
Meng denies the charges, and his defense attorneys are seeking the release of numerous documents, including emails between Canadian and U.S. authorities, to prove that authorities abused the legal process in arresting Meng Wanzhou.
