A few days ago, Shaoguan, Guangdong Province, Nanxiong City was hit by heavy rains, triggering a “50-year flood”. The video circulated online shows that many towns were flooded, houses and farmland were soaked in the flood, the damage was heavy.

According to the May 18 report of CCTV, from 8:00 pm on the 16th to 8:00 am on the 17th, there were strong thunderstorms in the north central Shaoguan City, with heavy rainfall in local areas. Among them, Nanxiong City, a general rainstorm, local heavy rain.

At 2:42 a.m. on the 17th, Nanxiong City issued a red alert for heavy rain, turbulent flooding was seen everywhere in the city, and farmland was soaked in floodwater, causing heavy damage. Heavy rainfall caused Nanxiong City, Zhuji Town, Huangkeng Town, hat peak town was flooded, part of the road traffic disruption.

In the neighboring Lonxian Town, Weng Yuan County, Guilian measurement station, recorded 212.4 mm of cumulative rainfall, Weng Yuan Guidong water part of the river “50 years a big flood”. More than half of the villages and towns in Weng Yuan County were flooded, residential buildings were flooded, bridges were washed away, factories were destroyed, and some of the roads outside the company were interrupted.

Official data show that as of 10 a.m. on the 17th, 1,350 people were affected in Nanxiong City, 960 people moved to other places, some towns even lost electricity and Internet access, and cash crops were affected by more than 2,065 mu.

According to the meteorological department forecast, May 19, the western cities and counties in Guangdong thunderstorms local heavy rain; 20-22, the central and western cities and counties have medium thunderstorms local heavy rain, the rest of the city and county cloudy with (thunder) showers.

Guangdong government requires 24-hour duty around, do a good job of heavy precipitation caused by urban and rural flooding, small and medium-sized river flooding, flash floods, mudslides, geological disasters and other secondary disaster defense.
