South Korean police officer dies after receiving AZ vaccine, was healthy and free of underlying diseases

A 55-year-old police officer was pronounced dead in hospital yesterday (16) after being given the AstraZeneca (AZ) Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) vaccine, and was healthy and free of underlying diseases, the South Korean Jeolla South Province Police Department said today (17).

According to the Yonhap News Agency, the deceased completed the vaccination on April 30 and immediately developed symptoms of nausea, headache and chills. After the medical staff’s advice, he took acetaminophen every 6 hours and his condition improved.

However, the police officer then felt numbness in his legs and chest pain, and continued to go to work during the onset of symptoms, eventually collapsing on his way home in the evening of the 12th.

After being resuscitated by CPR, the police officer was transferred to a university hospital in Gwangju, where he underwent emergency heart stent surgery because of a blood clot, but his heart function did not fully recover, and he died at 7:10 p.m. on the 16th.

It is understood that the body of the deceased has always been healthy, earlier this year to undergo a health examination also does not have any underlying disease, is expected to be through the autopsy to clarify the exact cause of death, the South Korean quarantine department will also investigate the death and vaccines have no relationship.
